Answered Prayers

Trystan and Peighton at Coltin's basketball game!
Over the last couple of weeks, Trystan has not been doing so well. The chemo that he receives is like a powerful poison. It is somewhat of a contradiction or catch 22. Yes, it is killing off any cancer cells that may be lying in wait ready to attack his little body once again, but it also makes his little body become very sick. He has several different kinds of chemo and each one has different side effects. The one that only takes 5 days in the hospital, makes his blood count drop, therefore making it necessary for blood transfusions, and platelets. Usually when he recieves a blood transfusion, he gets to return home the same day. However, about 2 weeks ago he needed one and afterwards he started running a fever and had to be admitted. This hospital stay was the longest he had had to stay for just a transfusion. For some reason(unbeknowst to the Docs) his counts were not coming up and his fever was staying. For this reason, we asked several family members and friends to say extra prayers. He was finally released late Friday night after a 10 day stay, with the instructions to not travel very far from home as he still was running a low grade fever. If the fever was to exceed 100.5. he would have to return to the hospital. Sadly our home has been full of sick germs for the last 3 weeks so he wasn't able to come over immediately. On Monday however, all of the kiddos were feeling better so he came over to hang out! He even got to go to Coltin's basketball game that night! He decided to spend the night with us so that Uncle Tim could draw his blood from his port so Rashel could take it to the clinic to see how his counts were. Home Health used to come and do this but we found out that the insurance company will either pay for Home Health or Physical Therapy. Right now he really needs physical therapy so that he can learn to walk on his leg again so we decided to let Tim do the draws and then physically take the blood to the lab ourselves. Anyway...so Rashel and Trystan take off to UK this morning. While there, they hear some good news and some bad news. His counts were down yet again so he would be getting another transfusion today, BUT the oncologists had decided that the methotrexate chemo that he is given, is doing more harm than good and he will no longer be getting it! This means that he only has about 2 weeks left of chemo instead of 2 or 3 months! He was so excited that he called me and was so worked up that I could hardly understand what he was saying! I KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that our prayers were answered and that the Doctors decision to stop that treatment was divine. This has been such a trial for our family and especially my dear sister Rashel. She is such an amazing person to be able to handle everything that has been thrown her way and still stay strong. Her love for her boys shines through in everything that she does. Her selfless acts of kindness and love are simply amazing. We are so blessed and thankful for the many thoughts, kind deeds, acts of service, and prayers that are sent Trystan's way. Without these, this trial would be so much harder.
